Remore Infested Kingdom - Knowing you're going to die changes everything

There is something disconcerting about human beings: a large sector of the population is a fan of horror video games. From a psychological point of view, the emotions associated with terror are not linked to pleasure, quite the contrary: fear is the natural response when we perceive that our life is in danger, and therefore we proceed to avoid the focus of our anguish. What is interesting here, and which at the same time may be inconsistent, is that, in horror video games, despite giving us a hard time, we love them.

The reason for this phenomenon lies in the adrenaline we secrete when our skill at the controls is put to the test against an implacable, cunning and lethal enemy, as well as dangerous situations that condition the game during the hours we spend glued to the monitor. This is the case of Remore Infested Kingdom, a tactical survival horror RPG from the Korean studio Black Anchor, where enemy visibility, scenery recognition and the noise we make when moving our units play a decisive role in its gameplay mechanics.

Remore Infested Kingdom proposes to immerse us in a medieval apocalypse, where the world has been corrupted by evil forces and our three survivors must make their way, turn by turn, through its labyrinthine and twisted scenarios. The terror of the situation is the constant feeling of overwhelm and helplessness that generates directing three fragile warriors, since the enemies are sensitive to our noise and our visibility, reduced. This point is crucial to understand what Black Anchor has achieved, because RIK departs considerably from the classic tropes of turn-based RPGs, reinterpreting mechanics such as stealth, survival and exploration.

"Remore knows how to push the player to make difficult decisions in short intervals of time."
For example, to survive this hardcore RPG, our three units have unique abilities that compensate for numerical inferiority. Each stage of combat has been constructed as a puzzle that the player must solve with intelligence to get out of their overwhelming battles, as the enemies, in addition to being alerted at the slightest of our presence, often hit hard and eliminate at a stroke any positional advantage that we can acquire. I loved how Remore knows how to pressure the player to make difficult decisions in short intervals of time.

Fortunately, exploring the scenarios becomes a vital task to acquire supplies that will help us survive. Every warrior needs his rest, and although Remore Infested Kingdom gives little respite to adventurers, we can stop to cook some food that we have acquired along the way. These foods give different bonuses for upcoming battles, as well as replenishing our health.

As a lover of turn-based tactical RPGs, I can only praise the great job Black Anchor is doing with this game. Moving away from the usual clichés of the genre, they have designed a turn-based tactical game with personality, an authentic gothic horror that has an easy grip; some formulas such as visibility and stealth have been reinterpreted with success, and the tactical combat has enough depth to make each game a real festival of death.

For my part, I can't wait to get my hands on the full version of the title, as the development team has promised to further increase the scale of the game with more than 15 scenarios and 40 weapons with unique abilities; in addition, relationships with other NPCs in the shelter will be increased, and we can even investigate the corpses of the infested to acquire new skills and use that knowledge to build weapons with unique and strange effects.

There is no doubt that Remore Infested Kingdom will be a tactical RPG that will be the talk of the town in the coming months. If you want to support the project, you can follow its creators on Twitter and add the game to your Steam wishlist. They will appreciate it.
